Strategy Overview

  • Stakataka has a niche as a very powerful offensive Trick Room setter. With its extremely low Speed and powerful STAB Gyro Ball, Stakataka can threaten to sweep with its own Trick Room set up.

  • Stakataka's incredible Defense and decent Special Defense stats make it difficult to OHKO without a super effective attack, giving it good opportunities to set up Trick Room.

  • Despite Stakataka's great bulk, its Rock / Steel typing is awful defensively, giving it 4x weaknesses to Ground- and Fighting-type attacks, which are very common. The Water-type weakness is also rather prominent. This limits Stakataka's setup opportunities, even if it can survive some weak, non-STAB-boosted Earthquakes.

  • Despite the huge weaknesses of Stakataka's typing, it can be useful for setting up against some major threats of Battle Spot Singles, with notable examples including Mimikyu, Tapu Lele, and Naganadel.

  • Overall, Stakataka's home is on semi- and full Trick Room teams. It's best to stick to this niche, because its defensive typing does not lend itself well to more supportive sets.
