Strategy Overview
Mega Scizor shines as a key physical threat and defensive pillar in OU thanks to its superb dual typing, Technician ability, solid stats, access to Swords Dance, and reliable recovery in Roost. Its typing and bulk let it take on dangerous threats like Landorus-T, Kartana, Mega Lopunny, and Mega Alakazam, and it is notably the best Kyurem-B answer the tier has to offer. Its access to Bullet Punch lets Mega Scizor serve as a solid revenge killer against a variety of faster targets, such as Weavile and Mega Diancie, and pick off weakened setup sweepers like Kommo-o and Hawlucha. It isn't just limited to sweeping and revenge killing; its access to U-turn and Knock Off allows Mega Scizor to compress roles and serve as a pivot and support Pokemon, respectively. However, Mega Scizor's typing leaves it with a nasty 4x weakness to Fire, leaving it easily chased out by the Mega Charizard formes, Volcarona, Victini, and Heatran. Not to mention, a plethora of Pokemon like Protean Greninja, Kommo-o, Mega Tyranitar, Clefable, and Zapdos often carry Fire-type coverage to deal with it; in Magnezone's case, running such coverage is required, which makes it especially dangerous for Mega Scizor due to Magnet Pull forcing its removal. Additionally, its reliance on Bullet Punch as its primary method of attacking is cancelled out by Tapu Lele's Psychic Terrain, and it struggles to do much to bulky targets like Toxapex, Rotom-Wash, and Skarmory, as they can threaten it with status or phazing.
