Strategy Overview

Garchomp comes with a great stat spread. Its base 102 Speed and offensive typing allows it to run multiple sets and outspeed and defeat top-tier threats such as Mega Charizard X, Mega Charizard Y, and Mega Tyranitar. With an immunity to Electric and key resistances to Fire- and Rock-type moves, it can also be used to beat powerful attackers such as Crustle and Victini. Its high Attack stat that can be further upgrade with Choice Band and Z-Crystal and solid offensive typing let it KO a lot of threatening Pokemon such as Mega Charizard X, Mega Charizard Y, Aegislash, Magearna, and Mega Venusaur. Garchomp has a great movepool with reliable STAB moves in Outrage and Earthquake, as well as coverage options in Poison Jab, Fire Fang, and Fire Blast to KO Pokemon like Whimsicott and Genesect. Rough Skin offers chip damage that helps it in defeating F.E.A.R. Aron. However, its 4x weakness to Ice makes it vulnerable to coverage moves carried by common threats such as Porygon-Z and Greninja. Its typing also leaves it weak to Fairy-type Pokemon like Tapu Lele and Mega Altaria, which can take advantage of Garchomp. It is left outsped by some hard hitters like Mega Pinsir and Mega Lucario, which can OHKO regular Garchomp. Although it can defeat some Dragon-type Pokemon such as non-Choice Scarf Haxorus and Mega Charizard X, it loses to bulky Dragonite, Naganadel, and Choice Scarf Haxorus, as the former can survive a hit and OHKO back and the latter two outspeeds and OHKOes Garchomp.
