Strategy Overview

Clefairy's niche largely comes from its great Eviolite-boosted special bulk, reliable recovery in Soft-Boiled, and ability Magic Guard; these factors enable it to check the strongest special attackers NU has to offer while providing teams with a consistent switch-in to Toxic and Scald from defensive Water-types. Clefairy also has a wide pool of utility options at its disposal, including moves like Knock Off, Thunder Wave, and Toxic, letting it cripple the opposition for its team and prevent checks like Steelix from switching in without punishment. Unfortunately, Clefairy's passivity allows Pokemon such as Steelix, Garbodor, and Weezing in to set entry hazards. Furthermore, Clefairy is very vulnerable to Knock Off from Fighting- and Dark-types such as Passimian, Pangoro, and Absol, which makes it less reliable as a check to them.
