Strategy Overview
Celesteela's great bulk, typing, and offensive presence help it to be a beast in the 1v1 metagame. Its diverse movepool with coverage moves such as Fire Blast and Giga Drain allows it to take on many threats in the metagame such as Ferrothorn, Mega Scizor, Mega Gyarados, Golem, and Donphan, while its STAB Corkscrew Crash allows it to mow down Fairy-types like Tapu Lele, Tapu Bulu, Mega Diancie, Mega Gardevoir, Mega Altaria, Togekiss, and non-Babiri Berry Whimsicott. With its Steel / Flying typing, Celesteela has key resistances to common Dragon-, Fairy-, Steel-, and Psychic-type Pokemon such as Dragonite, Magearna, Mega Aggron, and Meloetta. However, many common Fire- and Electric-type threats in the 1v1 metagame are able to OHKO it, such as Mega Charizard X and Y, Zeraora, and Magnezone. Also, Celesteela doesn't have a great Special Attack stat, meaning it has trouble breaking through walls such as Type: Null, even with Metal Sound. Furthermore, Celesteela's lackluster base Speed makes it susceptible to faster Pokemon like Mega Metagross, Mega Lopunny, and, in particular, sleep users like Jumpluff and Mega Gengar.
