Strategy Overview

Weezing's physical bulk, wide utility movepool, and abilities allow it to function as a great defensive pick for teams. A pure Poison typing leaves it with only two weaknesses, one of which can be negated by Levitate, and important resistances, letting it wall Pokemon that utilize Grass- and Fighting-type moves such as Gourgeist-S and Hitmonlee. A solid Special Attack stat and the threat of status make Weezing hard to switch into as well, and the ability to lay Toxic Spikes allows it to provide support for its team and wear down its checks. However, Weezing's low special bulk means even neutral strong special hits will take a big chunk out of its health. Weezing also has unreliable recovery, especially if it forgoes Black Sludge, since its only viable option is Pain Split. A weakness to Psychic also leaves it forced out by foes such as Mesprit and Gallade, and by those with Psychic-type coverage, such as Whimsicott and Ribombee, if it is chipped enough. Choosing Neutralizing Gas also means it struggles with Ground-types such as Sandslash.
