Strategy Overview
Rhydon is a solid Stealth Rock user thanks to its great Eviolite-boosted bulk, fearsome Attack stat, good coverage choices, and excellent offensive typing. Its STAB EdgeQuake combination is difficult to switch into, especially when combined with coverage options like Heat Crash to deter frailer Grass-types like Gourgeist-S and Whimsicott from switching in. Rhydon's bulk and defensive typing enable it to become a decent offensive switch-in to common staples like Charizard, Gigalith, and Archeops while also being capable of threatening out Defoggers like Rotom, Articuno, and Silvally-Poison. While Rhydon has a terrific offensive typing, it is weak to numerous common attacking types, causing it to falter against certain entry hazard removers like Whimsicott and Eldegoss. Rhydon's low Special Defense, Speed, and lack of reliable recovery cause it to get worn down very quickly by entry hazards and status, making it reliant on cleric support to aid its longevity.
