Strategy Overview

Pelipper differentiates itself from the other bulky Water-types in Wailord, Dewgong, and Whiscash by being immune to Spikes and taking neutral damage from Grass-type attacks. These factors increase Pelipper's longevity, since it's not exposed to constant chip damage and is not at risk of being removed by Hidden Power Grass from Flareon or Torkoal as easily as other Water-types are. Additionally, Pelipper is a rather solid Hitmonchan check, only fearing the not-so-common Rock Slide, and handles other threats like Metang rather well. Unfortunately, Pelipper is unable to check Rock- and Water-types like Relicanth, Pupitar, and Wailord as favorably as other bulky Water-types, and it's unable to reliably perform as anything other than a wall due to being outclassed offensively by other Water-types like Huntail, Wailord, and Dewgong.
