Vivillon has one powerful trick, Sleep Powder with its accuracy boosted thanks to Compound Eyes, which nearly guarantees that it will be leading the game off and inflicting sleep for strong early momentum. However, as direct competition to Bug's other special attacking options, even ignoring Volcarona, Vivillon stands out as especially outclassed. Frosmoth with the right support can freeze Flying, Ground, and Dragon teams into a fine mist, while Choice Specs Yanmega helps out greatly in breaking Poison teams. Even then, physically attacking Bug-types like Lokix are often better anyway, able when paired together to overwhelm checks like Toxapex and Skarmory.
