Strategy Overview
While generally outclassed by Tapu Fini as a Calm Mind sweeper, Sylveon boasts a unique advantage in Pixilate + Hyper Voice, which gives it better spread damage than Tapu Fini's Muddy Water thanks to the boost from Pixilate, its better neutral coverage, and Sylveon's higher base Special Attack. This combination lets Sylveon hit Pokemon like Urshifu-R, Kyurem-B, and Rillaboom for strong spread damage, which Tapu Fini isn't able to do with Muddy Water. Unlike Tapu Fini though, Sylveon struggles to damage Steel-types such as Heatran and Celesteela, and it requires teammates like Incineroar, Landorus, or Volcanion to remove Steel-types or chip them into range of a boosted Hyper Voice. Sylveon also doesn't automatically set Misty Terrain to naturally block status moves, and a pure-Fairy typing means Sylveon loses the Water Type's defensive profile, which is compounded by a much lower base 65 Defence stat. It also fails to offer any utility outside of Calm Mind offence, unlike Tapu Fini. Sylveon appreciates support from teammates like Incineroar, Rillaboom, and Zeraora, which ease it setting up Calm Mind with Fake Out. Incineroar also provides damage mitigation through Intimidate and Snarl, and Rillaboom gives HP recovery from Grassy Terrain. Sylveon also benefits from speed control in Trick Room from Porygon2 while threatening Fighting-types like Urshifu-R with Hyper Voice.
