Salazzle's access to Nasty Plot and incredible offensive stats make it a premier setup sweeper in NU. Despite having difficulty bypassing common Water-types, very few other foes can stand up to Salazzle's boosted attacks; for example, +2 Overheat gets past Mudsdale, while +2 Dragon Pulse deals with Guzzlord. Additionally, Salazzle possesses a very convenient defensive typing, which helps it avoid being revenge killed by Rotom-C's Leaf Storm and Passimian's Close Combat. Despite all of this, other fast foes like Inteleon, Talonflame, and Choice Scarf Heliolisk give Salazzle trouble, and Salazzle lacks any effective way to bypass bulky Water-types like Vaporeon and Mantine on its own.
