Strategy Overview
While undoubtedly niche, Coalossal possesses a few attributes to stand out among other Rock-types. Unlike other entry hazard removers such as Charizard and Silvally-Fairy, it can set hazards, and it's sturdier then both. Coalossal's Fire typing gives it an easier time dealing with Bug- and Fairy-types, such as Ribombee and Whimsicott, than other Rock-types. Additionally, Flame Body lets it punish reckless U-turn users like Ninjask and other physical attackers. However, because of its common 4x weaknesses in Water and Ground, Coalossal is incredibly vulnerable to Pokemon like Quagsire, Sandaconda, and Jellicent. Additionally, many of the Pokemon it wishes to check, such as Charizard and Centiskorch, have coverage moves to chunk it or can cripple it with either Toxic or Knock Off. For these reasons, Coalossal can only fit into teams that require its specific niches, facing heavy competition from the likes of Gigalith, Regirock, and Aggron, which are all less passive than Coalossal and can hold Leftovers due to not needing Heavy-Duty Boots. Furthermore, Aggron's Steel typing lets it better check Psychic-types.
